The YCS schools are an integral part of YCS. YCS brings life-changing success to New Jersey’s most vulnerable children and is New Jersey’s leading non-profit provider of comprehensive mental health and education services for children in need.
The YCS Ft. Lee Education Center, YCS George Washington School, YCS Independence High School and YCS Ernest May Academy are successfully serving students with special needs; behavioral, social and academic challenges for over 25 years. Three of the four schools were named “Schools of Excellence” by the National Association of Special Education Teachers.
George Washington School and May Academy educate students ages 5-14, Ft. Lee Education Center educates students 13-21+ and YCS Independence High School educates both regular and special education students 14-21+. While all other schools accept district referrals, YCS Indepedence High School only accept referrals from the Divison of Child Protection and Permanency agency. In each school there is a comprehensive clinical component, as well as visual and performing arts. Both of these are necessary for our students to express themselves in a healthy manner and explore resources that are specific to their needs.
The schools continue to improve their programs aligned with the Core Content Curriculum…world language, culinary arts, financial literacy, technology and college and career readiness programs. The schools focus on multi-sensory instruction and hands-on projects and our students are involved in many art contests and exhibits. Each classroom is staffed with a certified teacher and paraprofessionals.
The schools are NJ DOE approved, as well as approved state-testing sites which includes PARCC testing.
